This past weekend, Steph and I got to go back to “Bama” and spend the weekend with my mom. While I am there each time, I always make a list of what I can help her with and look around for things that need to be done. I needed to go through some of our stuff, (boxes of things that we haven’t used in about 2 years) and find a few items that are special to me (dvd’s of the show MASH). Each time that I go home, I try to make sure that I drive dad’s car just to keep it in good running shape until we can find it a new home.
Each time that I drive the car, it is a head turner. People notice this car. It’s unique and not something that you see every day. Sure one of the new Mustangs or Camaros turned heads when they first came out but now they are pretty common. Not this car. You don’t see very many cars built 65 years ago still on the road today.
One thing about this car that you wont notice until you really look close, it has a very subtle flame paint job on the front. You probably wouldn’t see this detail it unless you really got close to the car. Those people driving past the car on the road Saturday noticed the car but not the detail up close.
It got me to thinking about my life and what do people, even those close to me, notice about me….
What does my life reflect?
Stephanie knows more about the details of me than anyone on the planet. She knows when I am not feeling 100%, when I am upset about something, when something is really bothering me she knows when I am deep in thought regardless of me saying nothing when she asks what I am thinking…but I have known her for almost 10 years. She is the first and last one that I see each day. She knows the details of my life.
What about those people in my life I see on occasion or those that I meet for the first time?
I had the opportunity just a few weeks ago to preach at Gracepointe and I closed with how I want my story, my life, to be…
“My story in life is to be a true follower and servant of Christ living out the plan that He has for my life. I want to be a good husband to Stephanie, if God allows, a good father to our children, a good son to my mom, a brother to Chris, a good friend a good coworker. All of these, will bring glory to God. I want my story to reflect Christ. He must increase, I must decrease. If I remain true and faithful, at the end of my days, I want to be able to say like it says in…
2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Dear God,
Each day that passes I know that You have a plan for my life. You have given me great parents and family to make me who I am today. You have given me an amazing wife to do life and ministry with. We know that You are moving us toward Your plan for us. You put people in our path each day so that we can reflect, You. Help me to let them see the details of You, in me.
Keith
